There are many excellent mountain bike trails across the moors and the local Okehampton Club will give you a flavour of what's on our doorstep.
The 102 mile Devon Coast to Coast Cycle Route is one of the most spectacular and memorable elements of our emerging National Cycle Network. It combines the beaches and superb estuaries of North Devon with lush green valleys of the Torridge, Tavy, Walkham and other West Country rivers. The Granite Way also gives spectacular views from the North West flanks of Dartmoor. Other traffic-free sections include the Plym Valley Trail and the famous Tarka Trail. In addition, there are breath-taking viaducts and bridges bequeathed by Victorian railway engineers. Devon is an ideal place to cycle, offering varied types of scenery and alternative routes with many local links to explore and enjoy. The trail starts in the city of Plymouth and finishes in the popular seaside resort of Ilfracombe.
The Granite Way section runs adjacent to Lydford Country House and we are blessed with our own private gated access. Cyclists and walkers will often use us as a watering hole where they can sit above the trail and watch others ride through the old railway-cutting while enjoying a cream tea or cool beer. Our strategic location makes us an ideal staging post for those completing the Coast to Coast rout in a realistic 3 days, the other night being spent usually around Bideford.
